The camera is a commodity; the overlay is not

Wide lenses and auto-highlights are table stakes. The scarce thing is an overlay of *your* metrics on the clip — and a chain that proves how they were made.

By 2026 the portable-camera market has converged: 4K, AI ball-following, automatic highlights. Buying a better camera still matters for image quality. It does not decide whether Tuesday’s training tape can speak the same language as Saturday’s match.

The overlay is the product. If the picture on screen is a vendor’s event tags, every rival with the same subscription sees the same game. If the picture is your rest-defence metric, drawn from a tree you authored, the camera was just a sensor.

Treat marketing collages of “AI video” as advertising. Ask whether the overlay is your metric, on your tape, with every step on the chain stamped. That is a different purchase.
