Catapult

Catapult (Melbourne, ASX-listed) is the market leader in professional sports wearables and has spent a decade buying its way into an end-to-end performance stack: XOS (US video), SBG Sports Software (the MatchTracker/Focus suite now sold as Catapult Pro Video), Perch (weight-room velocity tracking) and — since October 2025 — Impect, the German event-data and scouting provider known for Packing metrics.

Strengths

The deepest sports-science workflow. Load management, availability, rehab progressions, longitudinal monitoring — Catapult's OpenField cloud is built for performance departments with structured processes.

FIFA-certified hardware used in matches and training at elite level, with good published inter-device reliability for distance, peak velocity and average acceleration.

A widening platform. Pro Video for analysis workflows and Impect's event data mean Catapult increasingly sells a stack, not a vest.

Custom parameters. OpenField lets users create derived parameters as equations over Catapult's collected metrics — genuinely useful for tailored load flags and thresholds.

Limitations

Threshold-based acceleration/deceleration counts show weaker inter-device reliability in published research — treat cross-device comparisons of those metrics carefully.

Complexity. The platform assumes dedicated staff; smaller organizations often use a fraction of it.

Physical data only, own squad only. Like every wearable system: no tactical context, no ball, no opposition, nothing from players not wearing your hardware.

Strengths

Limitations

Same manufacturer-difference problem. Research comparing STATSports and Catapult finds substantial differences for many derived metrics due to undisclosed processing — data from the two ecosystems is not directly comparable. Switching vendors resets your longitudinal baselines unless you model the conversion.
