Teamworks

Teamworks started as a team-communication app and has become, through roughly eighteen acquisitions and a valuation past a billion dollars, the default "operating system" of US collegiate and professional sport — 7,000+ organizations. For football specifically, the relevant pieces are the AMS (the former Smartabase athlete-management system), and Teamworks Intelligence — the analytics line assembled from Zelus Analytics, Telemetry Sports, Sportlogiq and PFF's enterprise business.

Strengths

Operations excellence. Messaging, scheduling, travel, compliance, nutrition, availability — the unglamorous workflows that consume a sporting department's week are genuinely solved.

A strong AMS. The former Smartabase offers configurable no-code forms, workflows and dashboards for monitoring and medical data.

Serious acquired modeling. Zelus built some of the most respected player-valuation models in sport; PFF's grading and Sportlogiq's tracking strengthen the stack (currently deepest in US sports; the soccer offering centres on Player ID recruitment intelligence).

Limitations

The analytics are vendor-built, not club-built. Intelligence products ship validated models, updated weekly, with customization documented at the level of renaming fields and filtering — not authoring your own metrics or encoding your own game model. You consume their ratings; you don't build yours.

Integration is ongoing. The Intelligence line is a set of recent acquisitions being stitched together; packaging is actively changing.

SAP Sports One

SAP Sports One is what happens when enterprise software meets elite football — developed with Bundesliga clubs and used by top European sides and federations. It brings team administration, training planning, scouting, medical and performance diagnostics into one cloud platform, increasingly with SAP's AI assistant generating summaries (e.g. condensing scout reports).

Strengths

One enterprise-grade system of record. Player files, training loads, medical status, scouting dossiers — consolidated, access-controlled, auditable. For a club's IT and compliance reality (especially in Europe), that matters.

Provider consolidation. Sports One is built to ingest and organize data from clubs' existing providers into unified player profiles and reports.

The SAP ecosystem. If the club's business side already runs SAP, integration and procurement are familiar territory.

Limitations

It organizes football data; it does not create football intelligence. Sports One is a management platform: the analytical depth is reporting and dashboards over collected data, not tracking generation, not custom metric engineering, not tactical modeling.

Enterprise gravity. Implementation, licensing and change management are IT-scale projects; the people who benefit most are administrators, not match analysts.

Ideal users

Clubs and federations prioritizing a consolidated, compliant system of record across departments — particularly where SAP is already the corporate standard.

Databricks

The third answer is a different philosophy: hire engineers and build. A lakehouse platform like Databricks (the pattern equally applies to Snowflake or a cloud-native stack) gives a club what tech companies have — every data source in one governed platform, unlimited modeling freedom, first-class ML tooling. Strengths

Total flexibility. Any data in, any model out. Your xG, your valuation models, your load forecasting — with modern MLOps around them.

Limitations

You are hiring a software team. Data engineers, scientists and platform costs put realistic annual spend well into six or seven figures — before a single football insight ships.

No football layer included. Event-data parsing, tracking pipelines, metric semantics, video linkage — years of domain plumbing that vendors amortize across clients, built by you alone.

Key-person risk. The in-house stack is only as durable as the people who built it — and elite clubs' analysts get hired away.

Ideal users
